An accident in the greater Baltimore area left one person dead recently and several others, including a law enforcement officer, visiting hospitals.

The chain-reaction accident on Interstate 95 started when a driver stuck the officer’s unmarked car that the officer had pulled to the side of the road.

After it hit the officer’s vehicle, the Jeep apparently got pushed into the traffic lanes. Three vehicles hit the Jeep. During the ensuing investigation, officers arrested the driver of one of these three vehicles on suspicion of DUI.

The driver of the Jeep was killed at the scene of the accident. He was 30 years old and local to Howard County.

Three others, including the state trooper involved in the incident, were taken to local hospitals. The trooper was treated and released.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team cleared the scene in about 4 hours. They are continuing to investigate this tragic motor vehicle accident.

Complex motor vehicle accidents require careful investigation

It may take time for authorities fully to investigate this complicated accident involving multiple vehicles. There will also be some important legal questions that will determine who is responsible to pay compensation for this accident.

This is even more reason why the victims of this accident, including grieving loved ones, will want to evaluate their legal options carefully before settling their claims for compensation.

Several people may be responsible for this accident. Also, victims may need to recover compensation from several sources given the extent of the injuries.  At least in the case of the injured officer, workers’ compensation benefits may be available.

Victims of a complex accident like this have every right to have their needs for compensation investigated carefully and thoroughly. Mistakes in this respect could leave victims and their families in a financial hardship.
